Fanling Lutheran Secondary School always strives to provide our students a vibrant whole-person education. Since 1999, the program “An Art for Life” has been implemented to cultivate students’ artistic and aesthetic aspects. In 2004 the FLSS Symphonic Band is established. Since then, it has participated in a number of International Band Festivals (Beijing 2006, Macau 2007, Taiwan 2012) as well as in the celebration of Singapore National’s Anniversary at the Merlion Park in 2010. In the pursuance of an excellency, one of the most important events organized by the Band is the public annual concert series, which has been successfully held for over ten years. The Band is also active in giving community performances for the day centers of severe mentally handicapped people and special schools.

In 2015, the Band went to Tokyo and visited the Kunitachi College of Music, where the student musicians learned and performed under the baton of Professor Miura. Credits to our instrumental teachers for their nurture and to their pupils with perseverance, there is a growing number of senior band student musicians who have attained satisfying results and awards in both ABRSM grade 8 examinations and in Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. The Band has also won the silver medal in the senior class competition of the 9th Winter Band Festival. In the summer of 2017, with the sponsorship of QEF fund, the Band travelled to Korea and performed with prestigious overseas wind orchestra in the 22nd Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival. Such cultural experience definitely enriched our young musicians' humanistic perspectives and widened their horizons.
