Everyone has a favourite teacher inside their hearts, the one who guides you along the winding road and the one who gives you courage to fight for goals and aspirations. Whenever we look back on our life experiences with merriment or agony, there will be one particular teacher who stands out as a beacon in a stormy sea. And the stories surrounding that relationship at such a critical stage – the adolescence can be so dramatic, amusing and influential. After much consideration, I finally come up with the one who made a great difference to the rest of my life and here is the fragmentary story about my favourite teacher and me.
My favourite teacher has the sweetest personality that she is cheerful and optimistic. She is chubby but not clumsy. She is not wealthy but she is generous in giving help. With her philanthropy, she genuinely cares about everyone she comes in contact with. She is experienced despite the fact that she had not even got a degree in university and having awful handwriting. Not like other teachers, she does not teach specific subjects. She teaches life – the most complicated, expressive, poignant task. This is quite obvious that my favourite teacher is an extraordinary one as she cares about me not just as a student or a daughter, but as an individual. And I can proudly say that my mother is the favourite teacher of mine.
My mum always behaves as a role model that I can look up to. Being confident and considerate, and that never be afraid of putting yourself in an unfavorable situation are her mottos. She also has a high standard of being a student that saying there is no room for failure but there is always room for improvements. In my eyes, she is a really tough woman that has extremely strong light and faith within her heart. I remember once I asked her where does her bravery in believing her own words come from, she replied with a short, simple answer, ‘It’s from you, the family.’ This is then I learnt a lesson about what family is. Not the genetic inheritance, not the bonding of blood, but the pure vision of love. Needless to say, this is the lesson that saved my life and that made her my favourite teacher.
Since then, whenever I look at myself, the behavior and the way of getting along with people, thinking about where they came from are proved to be developed from my mother. She may never know how she has shaped the person I am today, but my accomplishments have not gone unnoticed by her. I would love to thank her for her support and the opportunities which she opened up for me. Dear mum, you are my favourite teacher and you are truly a step above the rest. Thank you so much.
People may have different definition of their favorite teacher. Some would consider a nice and friendly teacher is their favorite one. Some may regard the one who never punishes students is their favorite teacher. For me, the favorite teacher of mine has to suit a couple of “requirements”.
First of all, he or she should have a well-organized and effective teaching method. The teachers who only teach us the knowledge in textbooks without any elaborations can never be my favorite teacher. A respectable teacher should keep improving his or her teaching method. Students and syllabus are changing years after years. If teachers only use old methods, the students therefore can only learn old knowledge. The world is stepping forward. Students should be well-trained in order to make sure they can chatch up with the pace of the world after graduation. The teaching attitude of teachers can affect the future of the community as students are the future of society.
Secondly, my favorite teacher should be considerate. Though it is just for our own good no matter how much homework and tests are given, heavy workload will only cause us losing interest in learning. It will be a vicious cycle. Then, wether teachers think more about us but not only pushing for the academic result is the key factor. Being able to get balance between academic performance and interest on studying of students is crucial to be my favorite teacher.
Thirdly, he or she should not only teach us the knowledge on books but also the way of being a right person. Nowadays, many students are lack of morality and politeness. In my opinion, teachers have quite a responsibility on guiding students onto the right track of morality and behavior. In this few years, quite a number of criminals are teachers. Raping, sexual harassment, stealing, all these crimes should not be listed on the teachers’ profiles. I am really shocked and disappointed by those teachers. Fortunately I have never got a chance to be taught by them.
Last but not least, my favorite teacher must love his or her job. The teacher who loves and enjoys teaching can never be a bad teacher. Once the teachers love their occupation, they will surely try their best to modify the teaching method, care more about the students and guide them from being bad.
I have been taught by many great teacher but I can hardly find one to be my favorite teacher.
Someone said,‘if students are imparted the knowledge and skills only, it is not an education but training. ’If I were asked what makes a good teacher, the passion and knowledge, instilling of the world views and sense of worth to his or her students is a must.
Mr. Yeung is such an experienced visual art teacher who always inspires his students. Instead of cramming the textbooks into students’mind, his lessons are not just about the drawing or painting. We learn how to appreciate cartoons, photos and even movies. I still remember that he showed us a photo in which a very faint and scrawny African child lying on the ground, and there was a bald eagle looking at him fiercely. I was struck when I saw this. Living in Hong Kong, we scarcely thought about how terrible the life is on the other side of the earth. Contrast to the stable environment we have, Mr. Yeung lets me realize that there are millions of people suffering from crimes, political conflicts, environmental problems and social unrests. When I was in Form 3, I have a peek at the lives of the grassroots in Hong Kong, he recommended us to attend a photo exhibition in West Kowloon. All these broaden my field of vision.
Mr. Yeung is quite special teacher in my eyes. Mr. Yeung often shares with us about the global warming, government policies, globalization and other controversial topics in the morning assembly. He told us the ice in the poles is melting, the sea level is rising. He criticizes the government for its policies and the unjust phenomenon. He talked about very sensitive topics such as sex and religion. Although sometimes I don’t agree with what he said, his braveness and passion impresses me. Today students are encouraged to work hard and they will have a decent job and then enjoy a good life. What Mr. Yeung did tell me that, study is not just for comfortable job and life is not just about personal achievements. I learn that a student should care the people around and the world.
