A Wonderful Festival

Some popular festivals such as Christmas and Chinese New Year are more attractive to some people’s mind since these festivals are full of beautiful decorations and celebrations.  However, they always neglect some less popular but more interesting festivals.  In my opinion, April Fool’s Day is the most wonderful festival.

April Fool’s Day is different from other big festivals.  It doesn’t need any decorations or celebrations.  The only thing you need to do is to trick others on 1st April.

On this day, you may trick other people in any way.  For example, you may put some little worms into you friend’s pencil case in order to make her scream.  Besides, you may also colour your teacher’s chair with a highlighter in an attempt to make his jeans more colourful.  April Fool’s Day gives us a good chance to make fun of others including friends and teachers.  If you want to trick some people you hate, you must seize this opportunity to revenge.

Celebrating April Fool’s Day costs nothing.  It only requires a low price, but provides lots of fun.  Everyone can enjoy this festival well.  This feature also makes the day distinguishing.

At Christmas, people need to spend money on gifts and cards.  During the Chinese New Year, families and relatives need to give children ‘lai see’ (lucky money).  At Halloween, people need to buy costumes and dress themselves like witches, ghosts and vampires.  Unlike these festivals, April Fool’s Day only requires your mind set since you must think thousands of tricks to make fun of people on this day.

If you are not smart enough to create some interesting tricks, you may find some friends to help you.  Two heads are better than one.  Maybe you can make more friends after April Fool’s Day.

April Fool’s Day is the most wonderful festival.  Once it comes, you are sure to feel its joyful atmosphere everywhere.  Maybe, you are one of the April fools!

A Wonderful Festival

Today is Christmas Eve.  It is very cold and quiet outside.  Many people have decorated their houses and they are having a Christmas dinner with their family members.  It looks very happy, but I know that it is none of my business because my step-mother has prepared a lot of housework for me to do.  I remembered that when I was twelve years old, my mother was killed in a traffic accident.  She left me and   my father.  At that moment, my father got married with a lady called Lucy.  She is my step-mother now.  Then my father went to another country for work and he ordered Lucy to look after me.  But we did not hear anything about my father.  I hope that he will come back before Christmas.

‘Ring, ring.’ The telephone was ringing.  ‘Hello!  This is Chan’s family.’  Lucy held the telephone and said.  ‘I am the manager of Hong Kong Airport.  Is there any Chan Tai Man’s family here?  A woman sounded very upset.  I’m his wife.  What has happened to him?  Lucy sounded very nervous.  ‘I have something to tell you about your husband.  But please stay calm.  Please listen to me!  The airline that your husband traveled was damaged by an air current, and your husband…’ The manager sounded very serious while Lucy finished listening to the phone.  She became like a wood.  I knew that father was in danger now.  My hope would be broken and I will become a servant of my step-mother forever!

After listening to this phone, my step-mother Lucy ordered me to wash the clothes in the bathroom.  At that moment, my tears fell down very slowly and I thought of many past memories.  If all the things didn’t happen, I could have a very warm and happy Christmas too.  If there was a Santa Clause in the world, could he bring back my father?  If it could come true, I wouldn’t expect anything more!  After wishing, I went back to my bathroom and fell asleep.

When I got up in the morning, I saw the sight of one’s back.  It seemed to be my father’s body.  But I was not sure, so I tried to wipe my eyes and watch more carefully.  ‘Is it real?  Dad?’  I said very tightly.  ‘Hey!  Daughter… you look very tired!’  Father smiled and said.  ‘Oh!  My God!  It’s a wonderful festival that I have never dreamt of!’  I shouted very loudly.

‘Haha… What a pretty girl?  I will stay with your forever!’  Father held me in his arms and laughed.

A Wonderful Festival

From east to west, there are hundreds of festivals,  Happy New Year, Halloween, Thanksgiving Day, etc.  We are all familiar with these festivals.  They have their meaning in the festive activities.  Some of them are full of happiness, some sadness.  But in my opinion, only one festival can be described as wonderful – Christmas.

Everybody loves Christmas, but why?  Because children can receive presents from their relatives and friends, because teenagers can hold parties for fun, or parents can stop working and relax at home.  These reasons seem attractive but they are not the true meaning of Christmas.

Most of the people know that since long time ago, Christmas has been for Christians to commemorate the birth of Jesus.  But nowadays, many non-Christians also celebrate Christmas.  Christmas is not only a festival for Christians anymore.  It gradually turned into a cultural festival and it has become one of the major events in many countries.

The most favourable part of the festival for children is definitely gift-giving.  Also, the unforgettable legendary character Santa Claus send them gifts.  White hair, curly mustache, red clothes, fat body and a laughing sound “ho, ho, ho, ho” have become the image of Santa Claus.  I remember that when I was young, I thought that Santa Claus was real.  Every Christmas I waited for “him,” but of course he never appeared!  When I think of that now, I thought I was so innocent at that time!  But having faith and hope in something isn’t a bad thing.  On the contrary, it is good for us!  I have faith in the existence of Santa Claus and hope that “he is coming” which makes me have the desire to find out he exists or not.  Although I know that Santa Claus is not real, when I see the innocent and charming smiles of the children who think that Santa Claus gives presents to them (but actually it is their parents who pretend to be Santa Claus), they are so heart-warming.  When they grow up, they will find out the fact that Santa Claus doesn’t exist, but it would still be a warm memory for them.  Isn’t that wonderful?

In western countries, people treat Christmas as important as Thanksgiving Day.  They stay at home with family, have some family chats and a big meal.  Christmas is a perfect time for a family to spend time with each other.  Or you can even invite neighbours or relatives to visit your house to improve the relationships.  Unlike Halloween which is a festival for children, Christmas is a festival for people of all ages all over the world.  Isn’t that wonderful?

You can receive presents, listen to Christmas carols, and have a big meal with your family.  At Christmas, you will never feel lonely because there must be someone who cares about you.  You can think of Santa Claus, or even Jesus who loves you so much.  Isn’t that wonderful!
