A Wonderful Festival

Everyone likes festivals. How about you? What festival do you think is most wonderful? Let me tell you what festival I like most.

I like mid-autumn festival most. Why do I like this festival? Apart from the beautiful moon, the most important reason for me to choose this festival is that families can have reunion on this day. When family members get together, they chat, enjoy the glorious moon, you can eat moon cakes and stuffed dumplings in soup named ‘tang-yuan,’ which means ‘reunion.’

In fact, I am of no exception. Like other ordinary kids, I also like to play lanterns and candle lights. On this day of full moon, you can see multi-colour lanterns in traditional paper form and modern ones resembling robots and cartoon characters. How wonderful!

Nevertheless, I still think reunion is the most important among all activities. I do not feel lonely. I can meet my family who used to be very busy. On this day, they also have a break so we can get together easily and chat in leisure.

All in all, the mid-autumn festival is indeed a wonderful festival to me!

A Wonderful Festival

Far away, in a village where everyone lived from any other people. The village was in a valley surrounded by hills and mountains. The villagers grew their own crops and raised their own poultry. Nobody in the lonely village celebrated anything.

A young boy named Akira lived with his parents. He followed them day in and day out to the fields to help with the crops. Akira was getting restless and bored with the village life. He heard stories from an old man in the village that people held festivals all the time in towns far away from his village. But Akira did not know what ‘festival’ means. He was eager to find out and experience it.

Next day on his 17th birthday he got up early, packed his bag and left to find the meaning of ‘festival.’ He traveled for two days and came to a strange town called CNY. He had never been to any town before. He saw a big castle. Akira spoke to a citizen and said the money god lived in the castle and always wore red which gave him good luck all the time. As red means good luck and named the town after Chinese New Year. The colour of the castle was gold and silver, which looked amazing. The king regularly ordered his servants to paint the floor red and make many types of money and was the richest town in the whole region. Akira ate many different kinds of food with names that means good luck or with good wishes, while he was there. Every day was a joyful day!

Akira felt sad because he missed his parents. He went back to his home village and told every villager and they were fascinated by what Akira had experienced. From then on every first day of the year they celebrated ‘A Wonderful Festival.’

A Wonderful Festival

‘A wonderful festival is coming! A wonderful festival is coming!’?I yelled loudly. Mum replied, ‘yea, Christmas is coming.”

Christmas is my favourite festival. At Christmas, I always go overseas to look around the world. I remember last year, I went to Korea with my family members. At night of the first day, I prayed to the Lord, ‘please let me see snow and feel it soon, Amen.’ On the second day, I really saw snow. It was unbelievable. The ground was white, the car was white, the trees were white. Everything was white. Then we made some snowballs to hit the tour guide. It was an amazing trip.

Every Christmas, mum holds a party. We invite all of our friends to join the party. We put the Christmas tree near the door. That is a big Christmas tree, it is seven feet high and three feet wide. Do you know why we put a Christmas tree there? It is because we want the visitors to put their gifts under the tree. The decoration is ready and then it is time to prepare the food. My mum has prepared turkey, pawns, spaghetti and so on. There are a lot of food and all of them smell good and delicious.

Finally the visitors have come and they bring a lot of gifts. Their gifts are as many as a mountain. They say the food is tasty and they look happy.

I am happy to see their happy face!

Christmas is a wonderful festival.
